WHY HAVE A MASSAGE?

The benefits of massage are numerous and, unfortunately somewhat difficult to interpret without an understanding of the human body. Massage therapists in New York State enroll in an 18-month program which includes intensive course work in anatomy, physiology, and massage techniques. The successful completion of the State Board Examination in Massage is also required.

Massage therapy has many rewards (for example, muscle relaxation) in addition to its more significant effects (such as, increased blood flow to the internal organs.) Massage therapy assists the body in the following ways:

Increases the oxygen capacity of blood by 10-15% which means that your cells recieve more oxygen.
Improves posture by balancing muscle activity.
Accelerates post-workout recovery, allowing you to workout longer and more often.
Increases your body's rate of metabolism by nourishing your cells more effectively
Enhances your skin's health by opening your glands leading to softer, more supple skin
Helps detoxify your body by activating your lymph system
Increases organ activity by engaging the nerves connected to your internal organs
Increases flexibility by encouraging joint and muscle mobility
Prevents injuries by removing inflammatory residue that may ultimately cause injury.
Induces a sense of relaxation and well-being

TYPES OF MASSAGE

I am trained in Swedish, Deep-Tissue, Myofascial, Reflexology, and Sports Massage. I specialize in the relief of neck, back and shoulder pain, sciatica, and chronic headaches. I also offer dual massage and instruction for couples as well as corporate on-site chair massage.

Swedish Massage
A five stroke technique that emphasis kneading and flushing out the muscles. You are undressed and oil is applied directly to the skin.

Deep-Tissue Massage
A Swedish-based technique that focuses on reaching the lower muscle layer with additional Pressure and Friction Strokes. You are undressed and oil is applied directly to the skin.

Myofascial Massage
A massage system which focuses on the Fascia--the cellophane-like material that covers each muscle. You are undressed and oil is applied directly to your skin.

Sports Massage
A technique used to warm-up or flush out muscle tissue depending on the stage of treatment. Sports Massage can be employed pre-, post-, or during an event.
